Upway, the leading refurbished e-bike marketplace, has officially expanded to the West Coast with the launch of its new UpCenter in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles. This marks a significant milestone in Upway’s mission to make sustainable, affordable e-mobility accessible across the US.
A Strategic Move Into California’s E-Bike Epicenter
California is Upway’s fastest-growing market, with e-bike sales in the state increasing by over 150% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Los Angeles, where 54% of trips are under five miles, presents a prime opportunity for e-bikes to replace short car journeys. The LA UpCenter positions Upway to meet this demand and participate in California’s e-bike incentive program as an approved partner.
“California is by far our most important market — more e-bikes are sold here than anywhere else in the U.S. Being in Los Angeles puts us right at the heart of the country’s e-mobility movement. The LA UpCenter brings us closer to both customers and partners, allows us to offer better prices and faster delivery, and helps us lead the shift toward making circular, affordable e-bikes the norm in America.” — Marta Anadon, General Manager Upway US, West Coast
Accelerating Circular Mobility
The 30,000-square-foot LA UpCenter is equipped to refurbish four to five e-bikes daily. This expansion enhances Upway’s capacity to process bikes, fulfill orders, and strengthen partnerships with over 200 brands, including Aventon, Super73, and Rad Power Bikes. It also supports Upway’s trade-in program, which spans more than 500 retailers nationwide.
“Last year alone, over 1 million e-bikes were sold in the US, and yet the second-hand market is still in its infancy. We are extremely excited for the launch of our LA UpCenter, this step not only will allow to scale our operations but also will allow us to move closer to our partners. We are committed to strengthen our existing relationships and establish new ones and make circular mobility a reality for more people in the United States.” — Alessandro Pregrel, Head of Buying, Upway US
Benefits For Customers & The Environment
Upway’s presence in Los Angeles offers several advantages:
- Faster Delivery: Local operations enable quicker shipping times for West Coast customers.
- Cost Savings: Reduced logistics costs translate to better prices, with customers saving an average of $1,000 per e-bike compared to retail prices.
- Trade-In Convenience: Free pick-ups for trade-ins simplify the process for customers looking to upgrade.
Since entering the US market, Upway has processed over 10,000 electric bikes, contributing to its global goal of refurbishing 1 million e-bikes by 2035. This initiative supports a circular economy by extending the lifespan of e-bikes and reducing waste.
Looking Ahead
With the 2028 Olympic Games on the horizon, Los Angeles is poised for advancements in urban mobility. Upway’s LA UpCenter positions the company to play a pivotal role in this transformation, promoting sustainable transportation solutions and expanding access to affordable e-bikes.
